NCS HOLDS 9TH NATIONAL FORUM FOR NATIONAL SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS/FEDERATIONS

National Council of Sports continues to convene the National Sports Forum for National Sports Associations/Federations, chaired by the Minister of State for Sports, Honorable Denis Hamison Obua.

The Forum is organized in line with Article 17 of the National Council of Sports Statutory Instrument No. 38 of 2014 which provides for the convening of the participatory meeting at least once every three months with the following objectives:
1. To recommend to the Minister strategies for promotion and development of sports
2. To attract and solicit for funding and partnerships for sports
3. To advise the Minister on the nature of assistance and support to be given to a national sports association representing Uganda abroad
4. To assist NCS in branding sports in the country

Heads of 51 National Sports Associations have convened again on 30th March 2022 at National Council of Sports (NCS) for the 9th National Forum of Sports Associations. In attendance were officials of Ministry of Education and Sports, Department of Physical Education and Sports, Uganda Olympic Committee, Board and Staff of National Council of Sports and media persons.

The Minister of Sports, Hon. Obua in his opening remarks has pointed to the government programme of revitalization of District Sports Councils across the country at Districts, Cities and municipalities with sports grants aimed at grassroots sports development.

The Forum also had the NCS General Secretary, Dr. Patrick Ogwel report on progress made on resolutions of the previous forums and way forward for the subsequent forums.

In conclusion, the Hon. Obua noted that ‘The Forum is the ‘Parliament’ of the sports sub-sector. It is a legally recognized meeting where we debate, discuss and strategize on matters of sports development.’
