GOVERNMENT REWARDS MEDALISTS OF RECENT SPORTS FEATS

The season of 2022 registered tremendous sports successes for Team Uganda at various international Sports arenas, and in honor and recognition of these exceptional performances, the President of Uganda, H.E Kaguta Museveni and First Lady, Hon. Janet Museveni, Minister of Education and Sports hosted Team Uganda to a state luncheon today at State House, Entebbe in recognition and celebration of the sports victories by Uganda athletes. The teams recognized comprised:

NCS TOURS KARAMOJA SUB REGION, INSPECTS WORKS ON THE TERYET TRAINING FACILITY

National Council of Sports has visited Moroto as part of the District Sports Tours in the Karamoja sub-region.

The main objective of the District Tours is to plan, organize and promote sports activities within the District up to national level in conjunction with District Associations.

NCS recognizes the pivotal role played by District local governments as key stakeholders in the development of community/grassroots sports development. NCS district sports outreaches is one of the ways/strategies to grow Sports at the grassroots.

GUIDELINES ON HOSTING INTERNATIONAL SPORTS EVENTS AND PARTICIPATION OF NATIONAL TEAMS IN REGIONAL, CONTINENTAL AND GLOBAL SPORTS EVENTS

Pursuant to Article 3, (vi) which states “Subject to the general or specific directions of the Minister, the Council shall have sole management of the property, policy and activities of the Council”, therefore considering the above, the following management guidelines have been issued for immediate implementation by National Council of Sports (NCS) and National Sports Federations as follows: -

NCS VIRTUALLY CONVENES 8TH NATIONAL FORUM OF SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS ON PROGRESS OF SPORTS POLICY FRAMEWORK

The 8th National Sports Forum for Heads of National Sports Associations/Federations has virtually convened today. The Forum is chaired by the Minister of state for Sports, Honorable Denis Hamson Obua as stipulated in Article 17 of the National Council of Sports Statutory Instrument No.38 to convene the participatory meeting at least once every three months with National Sports Associations/Federations.

DAVID EMONG CLAIMS BRONZE AT THE 2020 TOKYO PARALYMPIC GAMES

At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, Tokyo, Uganda was represented by 4 athletes in Para sports disciplines of Athletics, Badminton and Swimming. Uganda finished in 78th overall position with 1 Bronze Medal won by David Emong in the Men’s T46 1500m Event in a Personal Best time of 3:53.51 at the Olympic Stadium, Tokyo to enrich is sports profile that also has a Silver medal from the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games and Gold at the 2017 World Para-Athletics Championships.

HISTORIC MOMENT AS PERUTH CHEMUTAI BECOMES UGANDA’S FIRST FEMALE OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST AT THE TOKYO OLYMPICS

On 09th July 2021, the President of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the First Lady/Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Museveni, flagged off a delegation of 25 athletes to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics from 23rd July to 08th August 2021. This being the biggest contingent Uganda has ever presented with a bigger female representation of 13 females than 12 males to the quadrennial Games.
