THRILLING WINS FOR TEAM UGANDA AT THE 12TH AFRICAN GAMES 2019 IN MOROCCO
Uganda holds a record of dominating in Athletics and Boxing at the previous editions of the All Africa Games, now the African Games. Badminton and Lawn Tennis are the other sports disciplines that have given Uganda podium finishes at the continental event. However, the 12th edition of the Games that are soon coming to a conclusion in Morocco have witnessed a new twist and thrill for Team Uganda medal podium finishes. A bronze in chess, another bronze in women’s boxing, 3 more bronze medals in weightlifting and Halima Nakaayi medal in the 800m women’s sprint event are all new dimensions in Uganda’s exceptional performance.
With two days to the end of the Games, Uganda ranks 17th overall and boosts of 10 medals (2 Silver and Bronze). Below is the medal tally as at 29t August 2019.
1. Harold Wanyama- Bronze in Rapid Individual event-Chess
2. Halima Nakaayi-Bronze in women’s 800m-Atletics
3. Hellen Baleke- Bronze in 75k Female Middle Weight- Boxing
4. Aisha Nakiyemba-Bronze in women’s Doubles-Badminton
5. Gladys Mbabazi-Bronze in women’s Doubles-Badminton
6. Isaac Masembe-Silver in 57k Feather Weight Boxing
7. David K. Ssemujju-Silver in 75k middle weight- Boxing
8. Zubairi Kubo- 3 Bronze medals in Snatch -131k, Clean and Jerk 170k
Other notable performance include:
Emily Nanziri finished in 5th position clocking 24.66 in the women’s 200m
Okot Benson finished in 4th position in 21.48 in the Mens 200m
Chebet Racheal Zena, 7th after clocking 32:48.03 in the women’s 10000m
Lalam Josephine (53.39) finished 4th and Aber Lucy (46.88) 9th in the women’s Javelin throw finals
Shida Leni finished in 6th position after clocking 52.47 in the women’s 400m finals
