WEEK REVIEW: SHE CRANES FLAGGED OFF TO NETBALL WORLD CUP, AFCON2019, WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES AND MORE

NETBALL
Uganda, alongside South Africa, Zimbabwe and Malawi will represent Africa at the 2019 Netball World Cup in Liverpool, England from 12th to 21st July 2019. The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports on Thursday 04th July 2019 flagged off the She Cranes team comprising of 13 players and 8 officials at State House Nakasero. The Government of Uganda provided all the funds for team’s participation in the world meet.

Uganda enters the tournament as a stronger team having attained better world rankings of 6th position in the world and 2nd in Africa in the latest International Netball Federation Rakings. In the previous edition of 2015, Uganda emerged 8th overall.
Uganda is drawn in Group D alongside England, Samoa and Scotland with fixtures as below:
12th July Uganda vs England
13th July Uganda vs Samoa
14th July Uganda vs Scotland

FOOTBALL
The National Football Team progressed to the 16 Round of the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 and is set to play against Senegal, today in Egypt. A win against Senegal takes the Cranes to the quarterfinals which Uganda last reached in 1962 and 1978.

UNIVERSITY GAMES
Team Uganda is in Napoli, Italy for the 30th Summer World University Games scheduled from 3rd to 14th July 2019. 18 different sports disciplines are set to be competed in.

GOLF
Uganda is set to play against Kenya in the Victoria Cup at the Uganda Golf Club, Kitante from 03rd to 06th July 2019.

BOXING
The National Boxing Team of 26 athletes resumed training at Luzira Prisons Training Camp ahead of 12th African Games set for Morocco from 23rd August to 03rd September 2019.

VOLLEYBALL
The NSSF KAVC International was this week launched at its set for 02nd to 04th August 2019 at the Lugogo MTN Arena
