National Council of Sports (NCS) Council and Management, headed by the state minister of sports, Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi undertook a tour of eastern Uganda that included inspection of the National High Altitude Training Centre at Teryet in Kapchorwa.

The delegation inspected the works in progress at the facility with the running track field and the hostel building nearing completion.

Hon. Bakkabulindi commended the construction team for the progress attained and noted that the sports facility shall go a long way in facilitating sports training in the country.

The center once finished, shall benefit elite athletes especially in athletics, football, boxing and rugby.

In addition, the NCS team, led by board chairman Bosco Onyik and the acting general secretary Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel, handed over Shs10m to the district leadership towards the rehabilitation of the Boma Grounds in Kapchorwa. It is meant to boost sports in a region famous for long distance athletics.

“It’s good and often easy to go see people whom you know are disciplined and working hard to raise Uganda’s flag. I come here with pride and delight,” Onyik noted.

In the previous visit of NCS to Kapchorwa, the district officials noted with concern the deteriorating state of the Boma Grounds and rising threats of encroachment by private users. NCS accordingly pledged to support the rehabilitation of the grounds that act as training grounds for many athletes in the region.

The delegation also interacted with Commonwealth Gold Medalist Joshua Cheptegei plus other athletes during the visit.
