The Uganda National senior men’s cricket team, the Cricket team will debut at the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup scheduled from the 01st to 29th June 2024 in the USA and West Indies.

The Uganda Cricket Association announced a squad of 15 players and two traveling reserves, led by captain Brian Masaba for the historical bow. The team was flagged off by the Minister of state for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang on 21st May 2024 at Lugogo.

‘It is exciting to have Uganda qualify to compete at the Cricket World Cup against the World super powers. Nothing is impossible for Uganda and we are on the right trajectory as a sector.’ noted the Hon. Peter Ogwang, during the flag off ceremony.

‘Uganda Cricket has previously made 3 appearances at the Junior Cricket World Cup and we are excited that the senior Men’s team in making its maiden appearance. This is a testimony of the progressive development of Uganda Cricket and is a clear justification for Government’s continued financial support to the sports sector.’ said Dr. Patrick Ogwel, NCS General Secretary.

‘We are an excited bunch of players. No feeling can replace how happy we are to be the chosen ones to represent the Pearl of Africa at its first senior men’s World Cup.’ ‘ Our preparations have been the best ever. We are ranked 22nd, just behind Papua New Guinea at 20th. Many see this as the game we should target, but we aim to make a mark even against Test-playing nations. Expect us to script a fairy-tale and some players to secure opportunities in the World’s biggest leagues. That the plan.’-Said Team Captain Brian Masaba, who has been part of the team since 2011.

The 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup will feature 20 teams and 55 matches that will be played in USA and West Indies. Uganda is drawn in Group C with fixtures as below:
