Uganda Joins Invictus Games Community
Uganda has become the first East African country and 26th in the world to join the Invictus Community, and have been hosted in London by the Invictus Games Foundation in the United Kingdom this week. Welcomed by none other than Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, the Ugandan Delegation was led by the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Rt. Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka. Hon. Kiwanuka had with him State Minister of Education and Sports (Sports), Hon. Peter Ogwang, National Council of Sports General Secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel and other high-ranking members of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and Ministry of Defence. Among the strategies of the Invictus Games Foundation is to use the power of sports to contribute to the rehabilitation of servicemen and veterans around the world who are wounded, injured and sick, and Uganda will now participate in the Invictus Games in Birmingham, England, in 2027. With all the sports infrastructure the government is in the process of putting up in Uganda, perhaps those Games will be hosted here in the near future.
