Team Uganda continued its dominance at the 1st East Africa Community (EAC) Games with a thrilling 3-1 victory for the men’s national volleyball team over hosts Burundi in the capital Bujumbura on Tuesday.
A late cancellation of the football tournament- both men and woman- has left Uganda extremely disappointed for not competing in the discipline at the ongoing 1st East Africa Community Games in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The Ugandan women's volleyball eased past hosts Burundi in the opening contest of the 1st East Africa Community Games in Bujumbura on Sunday at Parque Courts.
It felt like a stroll in the park as the captain Margaret Namyalo-led side won the best of five contests 3-0.
A Ugandan contingent of 170 has today set off to Bujumbura, Burundi for the Inaugural East Africa Community Games slated for 16th to 30th August 2018. The Games shall run under the theme 'Fostering East African Community Integration and Peace through Sports' .
Sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi has said that government is committed to increasing the funding for all teams in order to ably complete internationally.
Dr Patrick Bernard Ogwel, the National Council of Sports (NCS) acting general secretary, has commended government to the sports sub-sector and retains hopes that it will continue to grow.
Over the past two decades, funding has grown astronomically from Shs444m in 2000 to Shs17.4bn this financial year 2018/19. Two years ago, it was Shs4.4bn.

The gallant National Woodball Team has been treated to a luncheon at Café Javas courtesy of National Council of Sports following their exceptional 2nd finish performance at the 8th Woodball World Cup in Thailand from 24th -30th July 2018. The Team also took part in the 10th Thailand International Open Woodball Championships.
Team Uganda comprising of Sixteen (16) athletes and Three (3) Officials depart today for Chiangduo, Thailand aboard Qatar Airways for the 8th Woodball World Cup slated for 24th to 29th July 2018. The Team headed by the NCS Chairman, Bosco Onyik hopes to outdo the previous performance of 2016 Woodball World Cup where Zawedde and Onesmus Atamba won the mixed doubles title, while the men's team finished 3rd overall.
