Mr. Andrew Otengo Owiny

Mr. Andrew Otengo-Owiny is the Group Executive Director pf MBEA Brokerage Services (Rwanda) Ltd/ MBEA Holdings Limited Uganda.
Mr. Owiny is the former Chairman of the Uganda Rugby Union where he served from 2005 to 2009 (Vice Chairman 2001-2005). Under his leadership, the Men's National Team attained the accolade of African Rugby Champion in 2007; and in 2009, under his tutelage, the Women's National 7's Team were the very 1st Ugandan National Team (Men or Women) to make it to a legitimate Global World Cup, the 2009 World Rugby 7's World Cup in Dubai, United Arabs Emirates.
Mr. Owiny also served as captain of Kampala Rugby Union Football Club (KRUFC) in 1989/90; and, as Vice Captain/Coach of Makerere University Rugby Club (now Makerere Impis Rugby Club) in 1986/88, where he was also a member of the University Lawn Tennis Team and Sports Minister of Livingstone Hall of Residence.
In 1984, he served as captain of the Nairobi Province Swimming Team in the Schools Provincial Swimming Championships.
Mr. Owiny has spent most of his working life in the investment banking and stock broking industry in the USA (15 years), Europe (5 years) and in West, Southern & East Africa (30 years); in central banking (2 years); and, in academia (Tertiary Education Teaching) (2 years). He is a Founding Member of both the Uganda Securities Exchange and the Rwanda Stock Exchange.
He has previously served on the Boards of a number of companies across the Africa Continent, including; the Uganda Securities Exchange, briefly serving as Ag. Chairman; National Social Security Fund; National Merchant Bank of Zimbabwe; CAL Merchant Bank Ghana (now 'Cal Bank'); Securities Discount Company Ghana; and aBi (Agricultural Business Initiatives) Finance Uganda.
In June 1997, Mr. Owiny, at the invitation of the United States Congress/House of Representatives Subcommittee on Africa of the House Committee on International Relations, provided written and oral testimony regarding "Africa's Emerging Capital Markets". He was the first recipient of the "Kikonyogo Capital Markets Award" in 2003. In 2007, he received the Runner-up Award.
Mr. Owiny was nominated one of the "2009 Distinguished Wharton Alumni (contributing to Africa)" by the Wharton African Students Association, of which Mr. Owiny was the Founding President; and the Wharton Club of Africa, a congregation of Alumni of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, from across the African Continent.
Mr. Owiny is graduate of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his Master of Business Administration degree in Finance and Accounting. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree in Finance from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, where he served as a Tutorial/Teaching Assistant for 2 years after graduation.
