Ms. Grace Abalo

Ms. Grace Abalo holds a Bachelor of Science Education (Sports Science) of Gulu University, Diploma in Education Secondary of Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo, Diploma of Vierumaki Sports Institute of Finland on "Physical Education in Change" and several certificates in Physical Education, Sports, Administration and Management like Certificate in Gender and Equity Budgeting (UMI); Certificate in Physical Education in Basic Education (University of Tsukuba, Japan; TOT Certificate on Anti-doping awarded by Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM); Certificate in Sports Events Management for Developing Countries/AIBO of Ministry of Commerce in corporation with China Sports International in China; Certificate in Leadership and Management Development (ESAMI) among others.

Ms. Abalo brings on board 14 years of service in the Public Service. As a Senior Education Officer serving in the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Ministry of Education and Sports, she supported the Department of Physical Education and Sports to successfully implement critical Education and Sports Programmes like: Introduction of Kids Athletics in Uganda and its subsequent roll-out; the Uganda-Germany Long Term Project of 2009-2013; Uganda-German Short-Term projects that trained many Ugandans on Modern Strength Training, Modern Endurance Training, Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine; establishment of the thirty-two (32) sports schools across the country among others.

Currently, Ms. Abalo coordinates Technical Cooperation Programmes on Physical Education and Sports with JICA, China and Germany as well as Sporst NGOs programmes; Budget Officer for the Department of Physical Education and Sports with 4 years work experience on budget related roles as well as Good knowledge on budget related roles as well as Good knowledge of Programme Budgeting System (PBS). She reports progress on implementation of planned outputs with over 10 years on experience in this area. She is the Procurement Officer with good knowledge of procurement issues. She coordinates Secondary Schools Sports Programmes and represents the Ministry on the Athletics for Development Training and Resources Network under Athletics for Development (GIZ-Uganda) project among other responsibilities.

Ms. Abalo has 14 years in administration and management of sports working at the Department of Physical Education and Sports at the Ministry of Education and Sports. She taught Physical Education to teacher trainees at Christ The King PTC, Gulu as part of her teacher training and has been a Teaching Assistant at National Teachers' College. Unyama teaching Physical Education before joining the Ministry of Education and Sports in March 2007.

As a teacher of Physical Education and Biology her training, she played most of the sports as part of the training requirements for award of the Diploma and Degree. She however had passion for athletics and netball. She has been a centre-player on the First College team whee she represented her college at national level. Late talent identification hampered her athletics career, but she is still good in sprint events which she still does for leisure.
