DRAW FOR 2024 CHAN REVEALED AS CAF POSTPONES TOURNAMENT
On 15th January 2025, the Confederation of African Football’s CAF has held draws for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Joint-hosts Kenya headline Group A, where they will face Morocco, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia. In Group B, co-hosts Tanzania will place Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic. Group C features Uganda, the third joint-hosts, taking on Niger Republic, Guinea, and two wildcard teams yet to be announced by CAF. While Group D features defending champions, Senegal facing off Congo, Sudan and Nigeria.
The TotalEnergies CHAN has had seven editions and will be played in East Africa for the first time since Rwanda were hosts in 2016.
The tournament features only players who play in their domestic leagues and 19 African countries will take part in this year’s edition.

Meanwhile the tournament originally slated for February 1–28, 2025, has been rescheduled to August 2025 to allow host nations additional time to finalize preparations

The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) today announced the postponement of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 to August 2025.
Good progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda with the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals and other infrastructure and facilities for the hosting of a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.
However the CAF Technical and Infrastructure experts some of whom have been based in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, have advised CAF that more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities, are at the levels, necessary for hosting a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.

I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of the football infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
