JACOB KIPLIMO SMASHES HALF MARATHON WORLD RECORD

KAMPALA - History-making Jacob Kiplimo has today made his first public appearance in Uganda in the wake of his world-shattering feat in the half marathon.

Kiplimo, the first man to run 21km under 57 minutes when he lowered the world record from 57.23 to 56.41 in Barcelona at the Barcelona Half Marathon on Sunday (16 February), was 'unveiled' by the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) at a press conference at their Metropole House headquarters on Entebbe Road.

STEADY PROGRESS AT AKII BUA STADIUM

*LIRA* - The National Council of Sports tour and inspection of strategic sports infrastructure around the country saw the Board and Top Management (NCS) visit Lira City and make stops at the Akii-Bua Stadium and Lira University earlier today. At the construction site of the $129.7m Akii-Bua Stadium and multi-sports complex, the Egyptian contractor SAMCO's Project Manager, Engineer Mohammed Nazir, took the NCS Team through details of the blueprints of the design-and-build undertaking, as well as updated them on ongoing works.

NATIONAL HIGH ALTITUDE CENTRE, TERYET HANDOVER TO NCS

*TERYET* - Appropriately described by the Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports as a delegation of duty and responsibility from father to son, the official handover of the National High Altitude Training Centre in Teryet, Kapchorwa, to the National Council of Sports took place this morning. As directed by the First Lady and Minister of Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, and in accordance with the provisions in the new National Sports Act of 2023, the facility shifts into the hands of NCS who are now mandated with taking charge of all sports infrastructure in the country.

UGANDA CRICKET CRANES TO DEBUT AT ICC T20 WORLD CUP 2024 IN USA AND WEST INDIES

The Uganda National senior men’s cricket team, the Cricket team will debut at the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup scheduled from the 01st to 29th June 2024 in the USA and West Indies.

The Uganda Cricket Association announced a squad of 15 players and two traveling reserves, led by captain Brian Masaba for the historical bow. The team was flagged off by the Minister of state for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang on 21st May 2024 at Lugogo.
